Born in Barranquilla, Colombia, Sandra is a self-taught artist. Involved with art since her early years, her first visual training was in publishing design. Thanks to a government scholarship, she traveled to Buenos Aires, Argentina, where her dream to formally study Fine Art at one of the most prestigious school of arts in that country, the old “Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes Prilidiano Pueyrredon,” materialized. During that time, she explored diverse materials and techniques in sculpture, painting, engraving, photomontage and collage.
Since finalizing her studies, she has devoted most of her time to the production of artwork. Much of her work expresses political conflict, such as the one that took place at the Colombian Embassy while she was living in Buenos Aires. Many of the themes present in her pieces combine to form visual commentaries that are expressive of the thoughts, feelings and attitudes of society, as well as her own personal philosophies.
