Utilizing a variety of media to best express the ideas
inspiring her current project is typical of Sandra Garcia. She is comfortable
painting canvas, welding steel, or casting bronze. Using whatever skills
and materials she thinks are necessary contribute to the evolution
of a successful piece of artwork by her hands. The artist's comfort
with a variety of media allows her to express her ideas regarding human
relationships (on a personal level) and political ideas (on a broader
level) through her visual art. Incorporating ideas arrived at through
life's experiences, she successfully endeavors to communicate her
feelings and thoughts about the world .

Born
in Barranquilla, Colombia, Sandra is a self-taught artist. Involved
with art since her early years, her first visual training was in
publishing design. Thanks to a government scholarship, she traveled
to Buenos Aires, Argentina, where her dream to formally study Fine
Art at one of the most prestigious school of arts in that country,
the old “Escuela
Nacional de Bellas Artes Prilidiano Pueyrredon,” materialized.
During that time, she explored diverse materials and techniques in
sculpture, painting, engraving, photomontage and collage. |
