artsouth director

ArtSouth has a new Director, Rosa Brito, as of April 1. Welcome Rosa!

Mrs. Brito joined ArtSouth as the Executive Director on April 1, 2008.
She brings to ArtSouth 15 years of experience in community relations, financial accounting, grant writing and special events management.
In her role as the Business Manager for Chamber South and her personal love of art, she took over the management of the South Miami Art Festival. Now in its 37th year the show has received National Recognition as one of the top 200 best art shows in the country. As the coordinator, Rosa oversaw the application process for both artists and vendors, arranged the jury process of the entries as well as securing independent judge(s) for the selection of prize winners at the show. She undertook the task of laying out the festival map by placing artists, vendors, sponsors and entertainment. During the two-day event, she was the lead coordinator in the festivalÕs initiation and breakdown. She was responsible for obtaining sponsorships to expand the show and developed partnerships with community groups to enhance the showÕs appeal to the community. She was the lead liaison to the City of South Miami in obtaining permits and arranging for Police and Public Work Staff. She worked closely with the marketing coordinator to produce the show poster and oversaw all the advertising. Rosa was responsible for writing, documenting, implementation and the financial accounting of the Miami Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs Grants that support the festival. Both of these grants, TDC and the Community Grants, have been awarded to the show for the past eight years.

Rosa has been involved in numerous community organizations through her employment with the chamber. She assisted in the production of an annual golf tournament to benefit our military at Homestead Air Reserve Base and was successful in obtaining support and sponsorships in many fundraising events to support the Chamber of Commerce and area small businesses. Her strong financial accounting skill is derived from twelve years experience as an Assistant Branch Manager at First Union National Bank. During her banking career, she assisted in managing all operations for a branch with $55 million in deposits and $7.5 million in loans.

Rosa devotes her spare time to The Art of Quilting. She has been a member of a local quilting organization where she helped organize the guildÕs annual quilt show and undertook the showÕs publicity. She also assisted with writing grant applications. She teachers machine quilting and has won numerous awards. She has used this skill to make and donate quilts to local and national organizations such as the Safe Space, Sunrise Community, Bay Point Schools and the Quilts of Valor-Quilts for Soldiers Organization.
