| "My
work has a richness of colour that comes from the intense light of the
south as well as the vivid colours of the plants and living things that
flourish in hot climates. The natural world drives much of the subject matter for my painting, but it is its interaction with the spiritual side of life and the human reaction to that spirituality that is a growing part of my current and future work. With my oil paintings I am becoming more and more interested in the inner world of the human spirit and try to portray that inner world through surrealist portraits. These portraits are meant to show the human condition rather than specific individuals. I also have future plans to take this exploration of the human spirit into 3 dimentsional works. With my water colors and pastels I use these mediums to show the beauty of mature but like to let the medium itself drive how the painting forms. But always trying to see the spiritual behind the objective." Watercolors by Vanessa Bryson are on Display in the Florida Capitol’s Cabinet Meeting Room in Tallahassee through July 2, 2007. for information visit: http://www.florida-arts.org/programs/cceexhibitionschedule.htm |

Vanessa Bryson was born and grew up in England. There she received her
formal art training. She attended both Hornsey Art School, and Walthamstow
School of Art, where she received her B.A Fine Art (Hons) degree. Vanessa arrived in the U.S. and lived for some years in Texas, where she taught both watercolor and oil painting. While living in Texas she also attended the Glassell School of Art in Houston, Texas and studied water color under Arthur Turner. She also studied jewelry design under Ann Zilker. As an artist, Vanessa paints in oils, water colors , and also pastels. Her water colors are vibrant and exciting and serve as a basis for her oil paintings which take the subject matter and color of her water colors and transpose them into introspective, mysterious, and deeply symbolic oil paintings. Vanessa continues to explore other mediums and is currently working on a three dimensional sculpture project involving her love of nature and exploration of the human soul . |
